Riviera Maya, Q.R. – All aboard! As we approach the end of the year, the anticipation around the Tren Maya has reached new heights. With its grand inauguration set for December, two more test runs have been charted out, the first one being in the vibrant month of October. The trials mirror the journey experienced by President López Obrador just last weekend.
Governor Mara Lezama has conveyed the exhilarating plans surrounding the Tren Maya. Although the majestic train ride’s official unveiling is in December, avid passengers will have to hold onto their travel dreams just a bit longer, with services expected to roll out in early 2024. “After the grand December opening, ticket sales for this once-in-a-lifetime journey will commence, promising a fantastic start to 2024!” Lezama remarked.
Diving into the details, Tren Maya
On its sprawling tracks that traverse through the picturesque landscapes of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo, offers more than just a ride. Tailoring to diverse needs, it will feature three distinct ticket models. And while tourists are bound to be captivated by this transport marvel, it’s not all about them! An integrated cargo service is in the works, alongside a dedicated service for local commuters, ensuring the daily journey to work is nothing short of spectacular. To sweeten the deal, travelers will stay connected with onboard Wi-Fi!
The General Director of Tren Maya, General Óscar Lozano Águila, spilled the beans on the ticket pricing. Local riders can expect a rate just shy of 2.5 pesos per kilometer. Breaking it down further, he shared, “A local traveler might be charged 2.32 pesos per kilometer, a national tourist 2.90 pesos, and our international guests 4.35 pesos per kilometer.” Additionally, concessions are in store for students, the elderly, and the differently-abled.
