Quintana Roo, Mexico's Prime Tourist Destination

Has officially disclosed the expansion of new air routes to both the United States and Canada, in collaboration with top-tier airlines including American Airlines and Air Canada. This strategic move directly correlates with the tourism spike witnessed in the region, substantiated by 2022 statistics showing Cancún International Airport alone serving over 30 million passengers.

Two significant aviation hubs within Quintana Roo—Cancún and Cozumel—have been designated to manage these new routes. Amid the surge in travel appetite in the post-COVID-19 landscape, four major airlines—American Airlines, Delta, Air Canada, and Westjet—have unveiled detailed plans to introduce additional routes linking

North American cities directly to Quintana Roo. These will include new direct connections from Cancún to U.S. cities such as Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Nashville, and Raleigh, as well as Hamilton in Canada. Cozumel is slated to gain new flight pathways to Montreal, Atlanta, and Minneapolis.

As part of its strategic focus on the U.S.-Caribbean corridor, Delta is further augmenting its service by adding three extra flights per weekend between New York’s JFK International Airport and Cancún.

Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Quintana Roo’s Tourism Minister, has formally expressed satisfaction over these operational expansions. The minister emphasized these developments as an affirmation of the airlines’ confidence in the region’s tourism potential and underscored the local government’s unwavering commitment to global tourism promotion. These new initiatives are in addition to several other U.S. routes announced in June, further bolstering Quintana Roo’s connectivity.
